⛔ This is not for you if...

  • You are looking for a quick weekend course or standalone hands-on lab
  • You want a completely passive, self-paced course without live mentorship or participation
  • You are looking for a short course focused on only one diagnosis or treatment technique
  • You are looking for advanced specialty training rather than a comprehensive pelvic health foundation

See What Other Pelvic Therapists Have to Say

"Dr. Tara is the reason I am practicing as a therapist today. From taking me as a novice and helping me become the therapist I am now, her mentorship has been invaluable. As a new grad physical therapist, having her as a mentor meant I always had someone to turn to when I needed immediate support. Without her guidance, progressing quickly with patient treatments would have been much more difficult. Even after four and a half years of practice, I still seek Dr. Tara's help. Her mentorship has profoundly accelerated my ability to deliver exceptional patient care and fueled my professional growth."

Dr. Samantha ChangPT, DPT, PRPC

"Dr. Tara has been instrumental in my growth as a pelvic floor therapist. Her mentorship, from classroom lectures to a 10-week rotation and beyond, taught me to think critically, troubleshoot complex situations, and communicate effectively with patients. This comprehensive guidance has significantly accelerated my practice, enabling me to confidently handle diverse cases and provide top-quality care. Without her support, I would be progressing much slower. Having a mentor like Dr. Tara is crucial in physical therapy, providing the confidence, resources, and practical knowledge needed to excel."

What You'll Learn

The PelviEd Virtual Residency is designed to help clinicians move beyond collecting information and begin applying it confidently in real patient care. Throughout the three-month program, you will learn how to evaluate pelvic health patients, identify the primary factors contributing to their symptoms, and build a clear treatment plan for the first several visits and beyond.

The Healing Method

You will learn how to use the Healing Method to organize evaluation and treatment for both straightforward and complex pelvic health presentations. The framework helps you determine whether a patient needs:

  • Down-training and reducing unnecessary pelvic floor tension
  • Activation and improved pelvic floor coordination
  • Progressive strengthening and functional integration

You will also learn when to move forward, when to remain in a phase, and when a patient's lack of progress means you need to reassess other contributing factors.

Pelvic Floor Examination & Clinical Reasoning

Learn how to perform a thorough pelvic health evaluation and use your findings to guide treatment.

  • Conducting an effective subjective interview
  • External and internal pelvic floor examination
  • Identifying overactivity, underactivity, weakness, pain, and impaired coordination
  • Differentiating pelvic floor muscles during palpation
  • Connecting examination findings to symptoms and functional limitations
  • Determining where the patient should begin within the Healing Method
  • Recognizing when symptoms may be driven by orthopedic, neurologic, visceral, hormonal, behavioral, or nervous-system factors

Bowel & Bladder Dysfunction

Build practical treatment plans for common urinary and bowel conditions, including:

  • Urinary urgency and frequency
  • Urinary incontinence
  • Overactive bladder symptoms
  • Incomplete bladder emptying
  • Constipation
  • Fecal urgency and incontinence
  • Bowel-emptying dysfunction
  • Toileting mechanics
  • Bladder and bowel retraining
  • Fluid, dietary, and behavioral contributors
  • Pressure management during daily activities

Pelvic Pain & Sexual Health

Learn how to evaluate and treat pelvic pain without relying on a single diagnosis or protocol.

  • Dyspareunia
  • Vaginismus and penetration disorders
  • Vulvodynia and vestibulodynia
  • Chronic pelvic pain
  • Pelvic floor muscle overactivity
  • Pudendal neuralgia
  • Coccydynia
  • Pain with sitting, intimacy, examination, or movement
  • Nervous-system sensitivity and pain education
  • Graded exposure and return to comfortable penetration
  • Patient communication surrounding sensitive sexual and pelvic health concerns

Male Pelvic Health

Develop a clear approach to common male pelvic health presentations, including:

  • Post-prostatectomy urinary incontinence
  • Erectile and sexual dysfunction concerns
  • Chronic pelvic pain syndrome
  • Prostatitis-like symptoms
  • Pelvic floor overactivity
  • Urinary urgency and frequency
  • Bowel dysfunction
  • Coordination and strengthening of the external urinary sphincter
  • Bladder retraining and functional return after prostate surgery

Pelvic Organ Prolapse & Pressure Management

Learn how to evaluate prolapse symptoms and address the functional factors that influence pelvic pressure.

  • Pelvic organ support
  • Pressure management
  • Breathing and abdominal coordination
  • Lifting, exercise, coughing, and daily activity modifications
  • Pelvic floor strengthening when appropriate
  • Constipation and straining
  • Patient education and symptom management
  • Recognizing when a patient may benefit from additional medical or pessary evaluation

Abdominal Wall, Breathing & Orthopedic Factors

Pelvic floor symptoms do not occur in isolation. You will learn how to assess and treat contributing factors throughout the body, including:

  • Abdominal wall coordination
  • Diastasis recti
  • Intra-abdominal pressure management
  • Breathing mechanics
  • Hip and lumbar involvement
  • Coccyx and sacral contributors
  • Movement patterns and compensations
  • Posture, lifting, transfers, exercise, and functional activity

Hormonal & Tissue Considerations

Learn how hormonal changes and tissue health may contribute to pelvic floor symptoms.

  • Genitourinary syndrome of menopause
  • Vaginal dryness and tissue irritation
  • Pain with penetration or examination
  • Postpartum and menopausal tissue changes
  • The role of vaginal estrogen and other medical treatments
  • Recognizing when referral or collaboration with another provider is appropriate

Treatment Techniques & Progression

The residency focuses on selecting treatment based on the individual patient rather than following a diagnosis-specific protocol.

  • Patient education
  • Internal and external manual therapy
  • Pelvic floor down-training
  • Breathing and relaxation strategies
  • Neuromuscular re-education
  • Pelvic floor activation and coordination
  • Progressive strengthening
  • Bladder and bowel retraining
  • Functional movement and pressure-management training
  • Home-program development
  • Symptom tracking and exercise progression
  • Modalities and electrical stimulation when appropriate

Managing Complex or Stalled Cases

You will learn what to do when a patient is not progressing as expected.

  • Reassess the original clinical hypothesis
  • Identify missed contributing factors
  • Distinguish primary drivers from secondary pelvic floor guarding
  • Modify treatment based on the patient's response
  • Recognize when imaging, medical evaluation, or referral may be appropriate
  • Communicate uncertainty without losing the patient's confidence
  • Develop a clear plan instead of continuing the same treatment without results

Patient Communication & Clinical Confidence

Clinical knowledge is only useful when you can explain it clearly and apply it confidently. Throughout the residency, you will develop skills in:

  • Explaining examination findings in patient-friendly language
  • Discussing internal examinations and sensitive topics
  • Setting expectations for the first four to six visits
  • Creating patient-centered goals
  • Responding when a patient is fearful, frustrated, or overwhelmed
  • Building trust during intimate or emotionally complex care
  • Presenting a clear treatment plan
  • Communicating when the plan needs to change

By the end of the Virtual Residency, you will have a more organized approach to pelvic health care, stronger clinical reasoning, and the confidence to make treatment decisions based on the patient in front of you.
